Storm Swept By Tiffin to Begin Conference Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Lake Erie College Storm Baseball team traveled to face the Tiffin University Dragons this weekend, Mar. 17 and 20, for a four-game series. The Storm were shut out on the weekend as their record falls to 2-12 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.

Game 1 - March 17

The Storm began conference play this past weekend with a split four-game series against Tiffin. Game 1 got off to a hot start for the Storm as Robert Helt blasted a 3-run shot to put them up early in the contest.

Zach Saffell got the nod in the game and despite giving up two runs early, he was able to work out of trouble and pitch four complete innings before being pulled.

The Dragons would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth and remain in the lead for the remainder of the game, leaving the final score at 17-7.

Graham Solak would go 2-4 in the game while Helt's three-run home run would prove to contribute the most to the offense.

WP - Francisco Oliveras (2-1)

LP - Zach Saffell (1-2)

Game 2 - March 17

In game 2 on the day, Lake Erie wouldn't produce much more.

Starter Anthony Berrios Jr. got hit hard in the second inning and was subsequently pulled.

The offense would be held to just three hits and one walk the entire contest as Dragons starter Gunnar Boehm had their number, pitching six shutout innings with 12 strikeouts in a 12-0 game.

WP - Gunnar Boehm (2-1)

LP - Anthony Berrios Jr. (0-3)

Game 3 - March 20

The Storm would look to get back on track after disappointing losses three days ago.

However, dominant pitching by the Dragons would once again plague Lake Erie as they were again shut out and only able to amass five hits.

Graham Solak was once again a bright spot for the team as he went 2 for 3 in the contest but the Storm would fall to the Dragons, 15-0.

WP: Michael Boswell (3-2)

LP: Jon Poppy (0-2)

Game 4 - March 20

It was a tough scene for the Storm during this final game of the series as their only baserunners came off of a walk and an error. Although Lake Erie pitching was the best it was all series, the offense failed to show up and scored their only run on a throwing error with Mason Eicher on third.

WP: Tyler Wehrle (2-0)

LP: Robert Helt (0-2)

The Storm will be back in action for their home opener on Saturday, March 26 and 27 for a four-game series against Findlay at Classic Park.
