Box Score 2 ERIE, Penn. – The Lake Erie College Storm Baseball team traveled to face the Mercyhurst University Lakers this week, Mar. 15, for a two-game series. The Storm were shut out on the day as their record falls to 2-8.
Game 1 - March 15
The first game of Sunday's doubleheader saw the Storm strike first early when Graham Solak, the first batter of the game, led off with a home run to left field, his second of the season.
Starting pitcher Robert Helt would pitch two scoreless innings before being replaced in the third inning. It was from there that Lake Erie pitching would fall apart, as they'd soon give up 11 total runs over the next two innings.
Lake Erie would scratch out two more runs in the top of the sixth but the Lakers would respond with an 11-run inning, and take a 22-3 lead into victory.
WP - Daniel Thomas (1-1)
LP - Evan Barnes (0-1)
Game 2 - March 15
Coming off the sting from their Game 1 loss, Lake Erie was hungry to bounce back and even the series.
Once again, it was a big inning that separated the Storm from their opponent as they were down 1-0 going into the fourth inning before Mercyhurst would put together a four-run fourth inning, extending their lead to 5-0.
Lake Erie would finally get on the board in the top of the sixth when Graham Solak would send a pitch into the left-centerfield seats for a two-run shot and his second in as many games.
The Storm overall would look slightly better on both sides of the ball during this match but were ultimately unable to come away with the victory, falling 7-2 to the Lakers and leaving Erie, Pennsylvania and dropping two on the road.
WP - Aiden Kelly (1-0)
LP - Alvin Resner IV (0-1)
The Storm will be back in action Thursday, March 17 for a two-game at Tiffin to kick off conference play before traveling right back to Tiffin for another two-game series on March 20.
