PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie Storm women's basketball team took on the Lakers of Mercyhurst University for a non-conference game. After a tough fought game, the Storm fell to the Lakers by a score of 76-66. This brings the Storm's overall record to 4-4 on the season.

Lake Erie was unable to contain the hot shooting of Mercyhurst. The Lakers would end the game shooting 39.1% from the 3-point line, cutting short the resilient effort shown by the Storm late in the contest. Lake Erie found themselves going into the half only trailing by 5 points, much in part due to their exceptional defense. The Storm held the Lakers to just a 12 point first quarter, but fell back down to earth being out scored 28-20 in the second quarter.

The Storm were led by a strong outing from senior forward Abby Matalavage. Matalavage would end the contest tying her career high in points with 29 points, going 9-17 from the field. She also added six boards and two steals in her monster performance, all in 30 minutes of action.

Sophomore guard Anna Ibos was fantastic off the bench with 14 points off of a solid 5-6 made from the field. Ibos added on to the shooting clinic with five rebounds and a block in 32 minutes of play. Senior guard Sydney Wyngarden added 11 points and five rebounds. Another key player was senior guard Angela Fink, who contributed seven assists, seven rebounds, one steal, and two points. Lake Erie ended the game shooting 38.2 % from the field and 46.2% behind the arch. Promising signs after a hard fought loss.

The Storm look to get back on track as they travel to North Canton, Ohio on Wednesday, December 14th to take on the Cavaliers of Walsh University at 6:00 PM for another inner conference matchup.
