Storm Face Dolphins in Season Opener

DEWIIT, New York — The Storm women's basketball started their 2022 season against the Le Moyne Dolphins. The Storm came up short, falling 67-81 to the Dolphins. The score stayed tight throughout the entire second half, until the Dolphins were able to pull ahead late and take the win. 

Senior guard Sydney Wyngarden led the storm in offensive efficiency recording team highs in points and assists. She finished the night posting 17 points and 9 rebounds, one shy of a triple double. Sydney played a team high 37 minutes and finished shooting 8/19 on 42.1%. Senior forward Kayla Clark also picked up ten rebounds for the Storm. 

The Storm shot 27/66 and had a 40.9% field goal percentage to start off the season which is something to build off of. The Storm struggled from beyond the arch shooting a cold 4/27 with a 14.8% three point percentage. Something to improve upon for the remainder of the season. Another positive for Lake Erie was the 9/10 on free throw attemtps giving them a 90% mark from beyond the stipe. 

The Storm were out rebounded by the Dolphins 50 to 38. Lake Erie was able to force the Dolphins into 7 turnovers and turned those into 8 points. The Storm ended with 38 points in the paint. There is much to look forward to on this upcoming season from this promising Lake Erie Storm squad.

The Storm head to Pennsylvania Western University Clarion to take on the Golden Eagles on Tuesday, November 15th at 5:30 PM.
