Box Score 2 (Painesville, Ohio) – The Lake Erie Storm split with Kentucky Wesleyan this afternoon on senior day. The Storm took game one with a final score of 1-0, followed by a loss in game two 5-3. The Storm loses six seniors after today's game, returning only seniors Allen and Brownlee for a fifth season.
Carly Rowland took the circle for game one for the Storm. Rowland recorded an impressive seven strikeouts for the Storm giving up only five hits.
Chloe Allen started the game with a walk to first. Jaime Carpenter followed by reaching first on an error by the second baseman, advancing Allen to second. Jesse Carpenter followed with an RBI single to second base, advancing Jaime Carpenter to second while Allen scored.
Jesse Carpenter's hit was the solo hit of the game for the Storm, but the Storm's defense was able to hold off the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers over all seven innings.
Jaime Carpenter started game two getting on by an error on the Panther's second baseman. Kiya Smith followed with a single to left field, advancing Carpenter to second. Leah Buck drew a walk to follow, advancing Carpenter to third and Smith to second. The inning ended shortly after.
Cameron Malkamaki started the second inning with a double to right-center. Soria followed, reaching on an error by the shortstop. Allen reached on a fielder's choice while Soria advanced to second.
The Storm scored two in the bottom of the fourth. Parker Viele started the inning with a single to right field. Soria followed with a single to second base, advancing Viele to second. Allen came up big for the Storm with an RBI double to center field, scoring both Soria and Viele.
Jesse Carpenter reached first on an error by the pitcher in the fifth inning, advancing to second on the error as well. Leah Buck followed also reaching on an error by the third baseman, which scored Carpenter, unearned to bring the score 5-3 in favor of the Panthers.
Allen added another single in the sixth inning but was left on base after a few quick outs. Along with Jesse Carpenter who added another single in the seventh to shortstop, but again was left on base to end the game in favor of the Panthers.
Seniors
After four years with the Storm softball program, six seniors will be graduating. These seniors include Leah Buck, Jesse Carpenter, Jaime Carpenter, Cameron Malkamki, Morgan Smith, and Parker Viele. Prior to the game today, these seniors got to celebrate their accomplishments with their team and family members. Two other seniors, Chloe Allen and Payton Brownlee will return for their fifth season with the Storm and continue their education at Lake Erie. All of the graduating seniors will be missed in the lineup next season, as we wish them the best of luck in their next endeavors.
