Box Score 2 (Tiffin, Ohio) – The Lake Erie Storm softball team traveled to Tiffin University this afternoon for a doubleheader with the Tiffin Dragons. The Dragons took both games, winning game one 3-2, followed by game two with a final score of 7-2.
Game One
Grace Hammer was in the circle for the Storm in game one. Hammer recorded two strikeouts facing 28 batters.
Leah Buck recorded the first hit of the game for the Storm in the top of the second inning with a double. Buck was left on base to finish the second inning. Jordyn Long started the top of the third with a single but was left on base after two quick outs. Payton Brownlee led the fourth inning with a single but was out shortly after at second as Chloe Allen reached on a fielder's choice. Kiya Smith followed with a double, scoring Allen from first giving the Storm their first point of the game, making it 2-1 in the Dragon's favor. Kiya Smith had her second hit of the game in the sixth inning, but the Storm could not produce the hit into another run.
Leah Buck came up big for the Storm in the top of the seventh with a solo home run. That was Buck's fifth home run of the season and seventh of her career. Unfortunately, the home run was all the momentum the Storm was able to get in the seventh inning as they lost the game 2-3.
Game Two
Bridget Mullholand started game two in the circle for the Storm. In her appearance, Mullholand recorded 2.1 innings pitched with two strikeouts. Carly Rowland came in late in the third inning recording 3.2 innings pitched with four strikeouts, giving up just one hit to the Dragons.
The Storm was putting the ball in play throughout the game, but many of the hits were right to positioned players. Allen started the first inning with a triple but was left on base after three quick outs. The second, third, and fourth inning was hitless for the Storm, losing any momentum they had.
Parker Viele tried to give the Storm some hope in the fifth inning, as she got on base by a walk. Dani Soria reached first on an error by the first baseman, advancing Viele to second. Jaime Carpenter followed with a single, advancing Soria to second and Viele to third, loading the bases for the first time today. Brownlee stepped up to the plate, singling, scoring both Viele and Soria. Carpenter advanced to second on the play, but the inning was ended shortly after bringing the score 2-7 in favor of the Dragons. Buck and Soria ended the last two innings with a single each, but the Storm could produce them into runs.
The Dragons took game two with a final score of 2-7. With this loss, the Storm falls to 9-26 with four doubleheaders left in the season.
