Box Score (TIFFIN, Ohio) — On Thursday afternoon, the Lake Erie College women's soccer team lost on the road to Tiffin, 1-0. This drops the Storm's record to 0-7 for the season, while the Dragons improve to 4-3-1.
The game started off slowly, with neither side scoring at all for all of the first half. Tiffin got off a decent amount of shots against the Lake Erie defense, but all of them were either off target or stopped by sophomore goalie Megan Biddell, who had six saves in the first half. She would end up with seven total saves in the game, with Tiffin taking 17 shots over 90 minutes.
But where the game was won for Tiffin was on a shot in the 59th minute, when forward Kristen Dickison connected for a goal, assisted by defender Kristen Walker. That single goal would prove to be enough to give the Dragons the victory, as the Storm had trouble getting anything going offensively all game. With only five total shots taken and only one corner kick attempt in the game, compared to Tiffin's six attempts, the ball was in scoring range for the Storm much less than head coach Reni Lawrence would have liked.
In terms of fouls, Lake Erie finished with nine, while Tiffin ended things with six. Additionally, the lone yellow card of the match came in the 59th minute, when Storm junior forward Haley Scherer found herself as the recipient of one.
Despite this disappointing outcome for the Storm, they were only one goal away from causing overtime and two from capturing that elusive first victory of the season. And now, as the abridged 2020-21 campaign winds down, they'll have one more opportunity to do so, this Saturday at home against Cedarville. That game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. EST.
