Storm Collect Major G-MAC Awards After Historic Year

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana -- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) has officially announced its women's soccer awards for the 2025 season. Lake Erie walked away with three major honors: Leonie Witt earned All-Conference Second Team, Carl Contrascier was named Great Midwest Coach of the Year, and as a team, the Storm were selected for the G-MAC Sportsmanship Award.

Leonie Witt – Second Team
Witt, a four-year starter for the Storm, racks up even more hardware before graduating, earning her second straight Second Team honor. During the season, she scored four goals and dished out eight of the team's 14 total assists. Her three game-winning goals are the most by any Lake Erie player in the past six seasons. The embodiment of what it means to be a Lake Erie athlete, nobody is more deserving.

Carl Contrascier – Coach of the Year
In just his second season at the helm, Coach Contrascier has helped drastically change the trajectory of the program. He inherited a team that went 6-49-5 in the four prior seasons, had an adjustment year in 2024, and in his first full season of year-round recruiting and off-season training, guided Lake Erie women's soccer to more wins in 2025 than in the previous five seasons combined. It's somehow more impressive than just that, however, as this year marked the program's first postseason appearance since 2017 and its first winning season since 2006.

Lake Erie College – Sportsmanship Award
A new award voted on by all member coaches, Lake Erie earned this recognition for exemplifying integrity, respect, and competitive spirit throughout the season. The Storm were consistently commended by officials and opposing teams for their professionalism on and off the field, setting a new standard for conduct within the conference. The honor reflects the program's cultural transformation under Coach Contrascier and the leadership of its senior class—players who have embraced accountability, positivity, and community, helping redefine what it means to represent Lake Erie women's soccer.
