PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie College women's soccer team welcomed a new teammate earlier this fall, officially signing 13-year-old Gabriella "Gabby" through a partnership with Team IMPACT a national nonprofit organization that connects children facing serious illness or disability with college athletic teams.
Gabby, who was diagnosed with chronic lung disease and autism, lives in nearby Mentor, Ohio with her parents, Tiffany and Tim. Through the Team IMPACT program, she became an honorary member of the Storm women's soccer program, forming a long-term relationship with the team while participating in various team activities throughout the year.
"We are excited to welcome Gabby to our program!" said head coach Carl Contrascier. "She is already an important part of our team and we look forward to having her with us. We are grateful for the opportunity to share this experience together."
Gabby officially joined the Storm during a special signing celebration with the team earlier this season, where she was welcomed as the program's newest recruit.
A self-described thrill seeker, Gabby enjoys singing, dancing, and listening to music. She is a big fan of Taylor Swift, Celine Dion, and Lady Gaga. In her free time, she enjoys puzzles, Legos, board games, and bowling, and she has a strong interest in science and history.
Through Team IMPACT, Gabby will have the opportunity to attend games, practices, and team events while building lasting friendships with the student-athletes of the Lake Erie women's soccer program.
Team IMPACT matches children with serious illnesses or disabilities with college athletic teams, providing mentorship, friendship, and support while creating meaningful experiences for both the child and the student-athletes.
The Storm look forward to continuing to build their relationship with Gabby as she becomes a regular part of the program.
