Storm Splits with Gannon

(Painesville, Ohio) – The Lake Erie softball team split the afternoon with Gannon University. The Storm won game one 2-0, before falling to the Golden Knights 8-3.

Game One

Grace Hammer pitched game one for the Storm allowing only two hits, recording 11 strikeouts. Both teams were scoreless through the second inning. In the third inning, Dani Soria started with a single to third. Payton Brownlee followed with a SAC bunt to third, advancing Soria to second. Chloe Allen then grounded out to the second base, advancing Soria to third. Soria ended up scoring on a wild pitch.

The Storm also scored in the fourth inning which started with a walk that Leah Buck drew. Kiya Smith followed the walk with a single, advancing Buck to second. Jessie Carpenter had an RBI single which advanced Smith to second, scoring Buck.

The Golden Knights were scoreless all game, recording only two hits.

Game Two

Chloe Allen started game two with a single. Jaime Carpenter laid a SAC bunt down, advancing Allen to second. Smith doubled to center field, which scored Allen. The Storm did not score again until the sixth inning. Jordyn Hawkins singled to short to start the inning. Soria followed, reaching first one an error by the third basemen, moving Hawkins to third. Allen grounded out to third, as she advanced Soria to second and Hawkins to third. The Storm scored two, Soria and Hawkins, on a double from Jaime Carpenter to left-center.

Although the Storm produced 11 hits, the Golden Knights were too much to hold off. The Knights scored three runs in the fourth inning followed by four runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.

Bridget Mullholand started the game in the circle for the Storm. Mullholand recorded 4.1 innings pitched striking out three, giving up six hits, including one home run. Carly Rowland came in as relief for Mullholand recording 2.2 innings pitched, with six strikeouts, giving up four hits, with two home runs. The Golden Knights momentum in game two was hard to beat in the end.

Up Next

The Storm will be back in action tomorrow, March 27th against Hillsdale College. The doubleheader with the Chargers is set to begin at 12 p.m. followed by game two at 2 p.m.
