Plantz Drops 31, Storm Wins Big Against Ohio Valley

Box Score

On Tuesday afternoon, the Lake Erie college men's basketball team played, arguably, its most dominating performance of the season, topping Ohio Valley, 101-65. The win keeps the Storm alive in the GMAC Conference playoff hunt, improving their record to 4-11.

From the very beginning, it was the Jacob Plantz show for the Storm, as the sophomore guard from Genoa, Ohio came out firing for Lake Erie. Plantz had 13 points after one half of play, and ended the game with a cool 31 points. With a postseason berth hanging in the balance, the Storm were highly motivated to take down the visiting Fighting Scots. Heading into the halftime locker room, Lake Erie found themselves in the lead 47-33, having taken the lead early in the half and never relinquishing it.

That momentum only continued into the second half, as the Storm quickly pulled away and turned the contest into a rout. On the game, Plantz definitively had his best performance of the season. But other Lake Erie players showed up as well when it counted, with three additional players cracking double-digit point totals (Harrison Riggs, Leon Hughes, and Jackson Burdyshaw). Riggs also had seven assists, and center Jonny Manning picked up seven rebounds.

For Ohio Valley, guards Keon Claiborne, Christian Alley, and Parker Black each had at least 10 points. But it wasn't enough, and ultimately, Lake Erie ran away with it and won by a score of 101-65.

Not only was this a major victory for the Storm, but it was a statement win and signature victory for this 2020-21 season. Now, the Storm look to continue this impressive play into the last three games of the season. The team takes to the road on Thursday and Saturday, heading to Canton each time to face off with Malone and then Walsh. Then, the Storm wraps up its regular season on Sunday at home, with Walsh coming to the Jerome T. Osborne Athletic Center. That contest starts at 3:00 pm.
