Box Score On Wednesday afternoon, the Lake Erie men's basketball team won its second game of the season and first at home, defeating the visiting Tiffin Dragons by a score of 77-72. This contest served as a makeup game for the Storm, who hadn't played since losing at Malone on February 8.
The game Wednesday started off well for Lake Erie, as their shots fell at a higher rate than Tiffin's in the first half. The Storm led by as many as 10 with 11:49 to go in the opening half, and set the tone for the rest of the game. The Dragons were reeling after the impressive Storm offensive output, but responded later in the half, making the score 27-28 heading into the locker room.
In the second period, Tiffin found itself more from a scoring standpoint, going on a 13-0 scoring run to take a four-point lead early in the half. But that would soon thereafter be followed by a 9-0 scoring run by the Storm to regain the lead. Ultimately, Lake Erie would spend the majority of the game in the lead, although it was never enough to be truly comfortable. The Dragons put up a good effort, but the rested Storm had enough to best them, winning the contest, 77-72.
Lake Erie was led by Kevin Peterson, the junior forward and Cleveland native who came off the bench to drop 23 points. He added in eight rebounds to complete a stellar performance. Senior guard Harrison Riggs had 15 points and five assists on the night, while sophomore guard Jacob Plantz had 11 points and nine rebounds of his own.
For Tiffin, guard Trent Williams put up 22 points, four assists and six rebounds as he shined in a losing effort.
The Storm men are slated to return to the hardwood at the Jerome T. Osborne Center Thursday night, in a 5:30 matchup against Trevecca Nazarene.
