Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Shooting woes continued for Lake Erie men's as they fell to No. 23 Hillsdale 59-51 in the Jerome T. Osborne Center Monday afternoon. It was another low scoring game for the Storm (0-2, 0-2 G-MAC) as the Chargers (4-1, 4-1 G-MAC) recorded their fourth win of the year.
The Storm defense held the Chargers to their lowest scoring performance and limited them to 23 made baskets from 64 attempts. Early in the first half Hillsdale jumped to an early 8-0 lead and maintained that lead for the rest of the game.
At the end of the first half the two teams went into the break with the score of 29-17.
In the second half, Lake Erie failed to capitalize on the offensive end and struggled to take care of the basketball. The Charger defense was able to force the Storm into 16 turnovers in the game. Lake Erie attempted to chip away at the Hillsdale lead, but could only cut the deficit back to single digits with just 16 seconds left to play in the game.
Harrison Riggs (Toledo, Ohio) paced Lake Erie with 14 points and three assists. Jackson Burdyshaw (Perry, Ohio) added 11 points to join him in double-figures.
Lake Erie won the rebounding battle 45-37 largely in part to a monstrous effort by Burdyshaw who pulled down 12 boards. Burdyshaw's 11 points and 12 rebound performance marks his first double double of the season.
The Storm will have a short period of rest before going on the road a week from today to take on Ohio Valley. Tip-off from Vienna, W.Va is set for 3:00 pm.
