Box Score 2 (Clermont, Fla.) - The Lake Erie softball team went 1-1 in The Spring Games on day two on Tuesday in Winter Haven, Fla. defeating Quincy and falling to Southwest Minn. St.
Day two started with the Storm winning 3-1 to the Eagles of Quincy after each team was held scoreless after the first inning, but Alyssa Johnson broke the tie in the second with a single that drove in freshman Dani Soria.
The 1-0 lead for the Storm was enough until the top of the sixth inning when Eagle shortstop Ashley Gerber hit a home run over the leftfield fence. The Storm would respond right back in the bottom half of the inning as they scored two runs. Leah Buck's double drove in Chloe Allen and an error by the first baseman allowed Parker Viele to make the final score 3-1.
Carly Rowland was on the mound and got her first collegiate win pitching seven innings giving up five hits and one strikeout.
In-game two, the Mustangs of Southwest Minn. St. opened the game dominating in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead over the Storm. Going into the final inning the Mustangs held a 5-0 lead over the Storm, but Lake Erie would not go away quietly.
The seventh inning started with Cheyenne Hamel reaching on a fielding error to by the shortstop. Alyssa Johnson, Morgan Smith, Viele, and Payton Brownlee would all single, while Buck would double.
The Storm and Mustangs would both go on to score twice heading into the bottom of the ninth inning when the Eagles Jillian Noel hit a walk-off home run to end the comeback for Lake Erie.
Grace Hammer finished pitching five innings facing 27 batters and giving up seven hits, five earned runs, and fanning five batters. Parker Viele pitched in relief for Lake Erie facing 13 batters and giving up two hits. in the inning driving in five runs to tie the game.
Day three action of The Spring Games will continue Wednesday as the Storm will take on St. Cloud St. and Augustana (Ill.). Game times are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
