Bryant Fans Bakers Dozen In Split With Falcons

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

(AVON, Ohio) – Tyler Bryant (Amarillo, Texas / Oklahoma Panhandle) mowed down 13 batters to help Lake Erie split a twin bill with rival Notre Dame College at Sprenger Stadium on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Bryant's performance helped the Storm win 7-4 while the Falcons (2-8) bounced back and won the backend 7-6.

The Texan's performance was perhaps even more impressive considering he was able to punch out the baker's dozen in just five innings before being pulled in favor of relief pitcher Cade Wendel (So., Ft. Recovery, Ohio / Ft. Recovery) who added another K for the battery.

Bryant registered three strikeouts in the first, second and fifth innings with four more evenly split in the third and fourth. It didn't come easy though as the hosting Falcons plated two runners in the second and third, and loaded the bases in the fifth before Bryant was able to record two more strikeouts to end the frame.

On the opposite end, the Storm bats were aided by a six-spot in the third inning as the team went around the order. Three were scored on consecutive walks with the bases loaded before Notre Dame registered the first out. After that happened, Browning singled in Corbin Paxton (Sr., Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania-Northview). The rally concluded with Drew Donaldson's (Fr., Galloway, Ohio / Hiliard Bradley) sacrifice fly to drive in Reed Collins (Jr., Farmington, Minn. / Farmington) to make it 6-2.

The Falcons proceeded to drive in a pair in the bottom half of the frame, but Paxton added an insurance run to score Brady Minetti (Sr., McKees Rocks, Pa. / Montour).

The nightcap saw both teams equal each other in almost every way. Both teams opened with one run in the first and added four more in the third. Notre Dame had the slight edge with one more in the fifth, but Lake Erie equalized in the sixth. Unfortunately for the Storm, the sweep was taken away in the seventh when the Falcons walked off after an error.

Chase Tompkins (Fr., Brooklyn Mich. / Columbia Central) took the tough-luck loss in a pitching by committee game. He went 1.2 innings with two strikeouts and two hits.

Browning provided most of the offense as he hit a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double in the third to put Lake Erie in front. He later scored on a double by Collin Minor.

The Storm will be back in action on Monday when they head down to North Carolina for the second time this season. This time Lake Erie will be in a three-game series with Lenoir-Rhyne. A doubleheader is scheduled for Monday with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
