Box Score 2 (Westfield, Ind.) – Softball was unable to find run production on the second day of the Midwest Regional Crossover and lose two on Sunday. The Storm fell this morning to Southern Indiana 13-0 and dropped game two of the day 5-1 to UIndy.
GAME ONE
Freshman Grace Hammer pitched three innings, in her second start of the season against Southern Indiana. Hammer gave up 11 runs during the first three frames before Riley Jackson entered the game in the fourth allowing USI to put up two runs.
Lake Erie was held scoreless for the full game and was unable to find any offensive production in the contest as the Storm were held to just two hits in 18 at-bats.
Hammer pitched 3 innings on the mound, giving up ten runs and ten hits. Hammer also struck out one batter and gave up two walks in the loss.
GAME TWO
After struggling to get any offensive momentum in the tournament so far, the Storm scored one on two hits, to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the second game of the day.
Payton Brownlee, Kiya Smith, Alyssa Johnson, Cheyenne Hamel, Carly Rowland, and Chloe Allen each registered a hit for Lake Erie, while junior Cameron Malkamaki recorded the lone run for the Storm.
UIndy got on the board with one run in the third, followed by two in the fourth to take the lead, and finished with one run in the fifth and seventh inning. The Greyhounds held the Storm scoreless over the final five innings.
Carly Rowland pitched her first game on the mound of the year, pitching 7 innings in the circle, faced 28 batters and allowed five runs off of eight hits in the loss. Lake Erie fell to 0-4 to start off the season at the Midwest Regional Crossover.
