Box Score (NASHVILLE) – Shooting woes continued for Lake Erie as it fell to Trevecca Nazarene 57-45 at the Trojan Fieldhouse in the Music City Saturday afternoon. It was the lowest scoring game of the season for the Storm (12-9, 6-5) as the Trojans (2-18, 2-9) recorded their second win of the season.
Defense controlled the momentum in the first half as both teams were slow out of the gate. The Storm saw their biggest lead take place midway through the opening frame as Jackson Burdyshaw (R-Jr., Perry, Ohio / Perry) hit a 3-pointer to make the score 15-9. From there both teams battled to the horn where the hosts went into the locker room with a 27-24 advantage.
In the second half, Trevecca took control of the game with a strong start over the opening eight minutes to take a 16-point lead. The Storm attempted to chip away, but couldn't cut the deficit back to single digits.
Gabe Kynard (Sr., Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) paced Lake Erie with 15 points and six rebounds. Kaleb Vaughn (R-Sr., Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) added 10 markers to join him in double-figures.
Lake Erie won the rebounding battle 43-38 largely in part to a monstrous effort by Burdyshaw who pulled down 13 caroms. He was a point shy of a double-double.
The Storm will return to the friendly confines of the Osborne Center a week from today as they host Kentucky Wesleyan in a quick turnaround from their Thursday's battle with the Panthers. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. with coverage available on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
