Softball Earns Split With Arrows

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College softball team split with G-MAC opponent, the Ursuline College Arrows, this afternoon with final scores of 2-1, a win, and a 5-3 loss. The split puts the Storm at 10-24 overall with a conference record of 6-12.

Starting on the mound for the Storm in game-one was Rachel Ward, earning the first win of her collegiate career. The freshman pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits, no walks, and earning three strikeouts.

Both teams were scoreless through three innings until the Arrows struck first, scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth. In the top of the sixth, back-to-back singles by Peyton Brownlee and Kristin Peacock put runners in scoring position for junior infielder Kaitlin Peacock, who doubled and scored the first run. The second run was scored on a throwing error by the catcher, and the Storm snapped a nine-game losing streak.

In the second game, RBIs by Kaitlin Peacock, Kylie Chandler, and a home-run by Leah Buck got the Storm close, but it ultimately was not close enough. Freshman Parker Viele earned the loss (5-7), allowing five runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Storm returns to G-MAC play this weekend as they head to Michigan for a doubleheader against Hillsdale College.
