Storm Splits with Falcons

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they spilt their double header with Notre Dame College.  The Storm won game one, 4-3 on a walk off, but fell in game two 5-4.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead, with a run in the first inning.  After three scoreless innings, Notre Dame tacked on a pair of runs in the fifth and took a 3-0 advantage.  The Storm responded in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at three runs apiece.  Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) got the inning started as she reached on an error, and the next batter Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled to give the Storm runners at first and second.  The next batter up Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) doubled to drive in both Rizzo, and Karako, and Hajnosz came around to score on a pair of errors.  The Storm walked off in the bottom of the seventh when Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) tripled to right field to scored Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) who singled earlier in the inning.  The Storm won the game, 4-3. 

In game two, the Falcons scored a pair of runs in the first inning to grab a 2-0 edge.  Lake Erie responded in the top of the second to tie the game at two runs apiece when Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) led off the inning with a walk, and a Taylor Phillips (Ontario, Canada / John F. Ross) bunt single advanced Doershuk to third.  The next batter up Ashley Brown (Dayton, Ohio / Carlisle) grounded out and plated Doershuk.  Later in the inning, a Kr. Peacock double drove in Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) who doubled earlier in the inning.  After a scoreless third and fourth inning, the Storm grabbed the lead when Ka. Peacock laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Birtley, to give Lake Erie a 3-2 edge.  The Storm added to their lead in the sixth when S. Karako singled to lead off the inning.  Jaime Carpenter (Bainbridge, Ohio / Kenston) came in to pinch run for S. Karako and was driven in when Doershuk hit a ground rule double.  The Falcons responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the seventh to win, 5-4.                     

Lake Erie will return to the diamond Saturday (April 21) when they travel to take on Cedarville, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
