Storm Swept by Chargers on Road

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College baseball team fell in a GLIAC doubleheader at Hillsdale College on Saturday (May 6) afternoon.

The Storm fell in game one by a final score of 14-1 and 14-5 in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

After scoring one run in the first inning, Hillsdale had three multi-run innings in the game. The Chargers scored four runs in the third and fourth innings and five in the fifth.

Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio / La Salle) put the Storm on the board with a solo homerun in the sixth inning.

Williams had two hits in the first game, including a double and his solo homerun.

GAME TWO

Hillsdale scored three runs in the first and five runs in the third inning for an 8-0 lead.

Nathan Erzen (Brookpark, Ohio / Berea-Midpark) went deep with a solo homerun in the third inning as the Storm put their first run of the game.

The Chargers added four runs in the fourth inning for a 12-1 lead.

Lake Erie plated four runs in the fifth inning as they chipped away at the Chargers lead. Erzen and Austin Bovenzi (Fairport, N.Y. / McQuaid Jesuit) put runners on second and third with a double and a single, respectively. Corbin Paxton (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) singled home Erzen before Sam Browning (Cincinnati, Ohio / Archbishop McNicholas) brought Bovenzi home with a RBI double. Alex Lind (Cincinnati, Ohio / Cincinnati Elder) lined a two-run, pinch-hit single to cap the inning.

Hillsdale ended the scoring with a single run in the ninth inning. The Chargers won the second game with a 14-5 score.

Browning, Erzen and Williams each had two hits in the game. Browning also added two scoreless innings of relief work.

The Storm will conclude the 2017 regular season with a home doubleheader against Hillsdale on Sunday (May 7).
