Storm Falls to Lakers

ALLENDALE, Mich.  – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they were swept by Grand Valley State.  The Storm fell 5-2 in game one, and 12-5 in game two. 

After a scoreless first inning the Storm jumped out to a 2-0 in the second inning.  The second inning started when Lindsey Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) was hit by a pitch and then Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) had a bunt single.  Both Valvoda and Birtley were later driven in when Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) singled to left field.  The Lakers cut into the Storm lead with a run in the third, to make the score, 2-1 in favor of Lake Erie.  Grand Valley tacked on four runs in the fourth and took a 5-2 lead.  The Storm was unable to battle back and fell in game one, 5-2.   

In game two the first inning was scoreless before the Lakers tacked on a run in the second and four more runs in the third, to take a 5-0 lead.  The Storm rallied in the bottom of the third when Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) reached on a fielder's choice with the bases load to plate Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood).  The next batter up Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) doubled to left center to drive in both Kr. Peacock and Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) to make the score, 5-3 in favor of the Lakers.  Later in the inning Darrian Yanek (Youngstown, Ohio / South Range) hit a sacrifice fly to right to score S. Karako, to make the score, 5-4.  In the bottom of the fourth Lake Erie tied the game when Rizzo hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Ka. Peacock.   Grand Valley quickly responded to take a 10-5 lead with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Lakers added a pair of runs in the sixth and took a 12-5 lead.  The Storm could not responded and fell, 12-5.

Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on Ferris State with the game set to start at 12 p.m.
