Storm Splits with Northwood

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they split their double header with Northwood.  The Storm fell, 3-1 in game one before bouncing back and winning game two, 13-6.   

The game started with three scoreless innings, before the Storm opened the scoring in the top of the fourth when Kaitlyn Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) singled to centerfield and drove in Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) to make the score, 1-0.  The Timberwolves responded with a three run fourth inning and took a 3-1 lead. The remainder of the game was scoreless and the Storm fell, 3-1.

In game two, the Timberwolves opened the scoring with a four run first inning.  In the bottom of the first the Storm loaded the bases and Darrian Yanek (Youngstown, Ohio / South Range) hit a grand slam to left to tie the game at 4-4.  Northwood scratched across a run in the top of the second to take a 5-4 lead.  The Storm took the lead in the bottom of the second when Arial Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) double and drove home Ka. Peacock to tie the game.  Later in the inning, a Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) single plated Birtley and gave the Storm a 6-5 advantage.  In the bottom of the third the Storm tacked on a run when Yanek hit her second homerun of the game.  Lake Erie continued to pile on the runs as Rizzo singled home Birtley and Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) singled home Kristin Peacock (Hebron, Ohio / Lakewood) to give the Storm a 9-5 advantage at the end of three.  After a scoreless fourth inning the Timberwolves added a run in the fifth to make the score, 9-6.  In the sixth the Storm responded with four more runs to put the game away.  The scoring started when Ka. Peacock singled home Alyssa Johnson (Wickliffe, Ohio / Wickliffe).  The next batter up Kr. Peacock singled and drove in Yanek and Ka. Peacock.  Rizzo capped off the inning with a single that scored Birtley to give the Storm a 13-6 edge.  The Storm held on to win the game 13-6, and earned a split with Northwood.        

Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (March 29) when they travel to take on Gannon University.
