Storm Falls to Cardinals in Season Finale

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Erie College softball team was in action today as they wrapped up their season with a doubleheader against Saginaw Valley St.  The Storm fell in both games of the doubleheader.     

The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  The Storm responded with two runs in the third to take the lead.  Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt) started the third for the Storm when she doubled to right field and later advanced to third when Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion) singled.  The next batter up Marissa Rizzo (Northfield Center, Ohio / Nordonia) singled to load the bases, and then Savannah Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) walked to drive in Doershuk.  Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic) gave the Storm the lead as she was hit by a pitch to drive in Urgo, to give the Storm a 2- 1 lead.  The Cardinals scored a run in the fourth and fifth to take a 3-2 lead, and the Storm fell 3-2. 

After a scoreless first inning the Cardinals got on the board with a run in the top of the second.  Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) walked to lead off the second and was advanced to third by Nicole Grimmett (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) and Lindsay Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor), and later Hajnosz scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one run apiece.  The Cardinals scored once in the third and twice in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead over the Storm.  The Cardinals added three runs in the sixth before the Storm responded with a run of their own.  Urgo led off the inning with a single and was later driven in when S. Karako singled through the right side, to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Cardinals.  The Cardinals maintained their lead and won, 7-2. 

Allyson Deemer (Poland, Ohio / Poland Seminary) was in the circle for the Storm in game one as she pitched a complete game.  Deemer allowed two earned runs on six hits.  Deemer struck out four batters while only allowing one walk.
