Box Score INDIANAPOLIS— The Lake Erie College baseball team fell in a battle to the University of Indianapolis, 12-11, Sunday (March 6) in a nonconference road game.
The Storm offense got on the board early. In the top of the first, Lucas Raley (Hinckley, Ohio/Medina Highland) homered to center field.
However, the Greyhounds got off to a fast start as well, plating three in the bottom of the inning.
The Storm was quick to answering in the top of the second. Nigel Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) led off with a single and moved to third on a Rutger Luebke (Medina, Ohio/Medina) double. A Ryan Grieco (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) bunt single scored Williams. After Kody Bledsoe (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) reached on fielder's choice, Rees Rua (Amherst, Ohio/Amherst Steele) singled up the middle, scoring Grieco. Bledsoe then crossed the plate on an error, giving the Storm a 4-3 lead.
The Greyhounds regained the lead by scoring two in the bottom of the third.
In the top of fourth, Raley hit a two-out single to right field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Zak DeCamp (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) brought Raley home with a single to left field, tying the game at five. However, the Greyhounds scored three in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, 8-5.
Luebke hit a one out single in the fifth and reached second on a wild pitch. Grieco took first after being hit by a pitch, followed by Bledsoe getting walked. With the bases load, Rua hit a single through the left side, scoring Luebke and Grieco, cutting the lead to one.
In the sixth, Luebke tied the game with a homerun to left field. In the seventh, Bledsoe went deep, giving the Storm a 9-8 lead.
Louie Peterlin (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) came across the plate in the eighth on a Luebke RBI, increasing the Storm's lead to two, 10-8.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Geyhounds' bats came alive as they scored four run to take a 12-10 lead.
In the top of the ninth, Bledsoe reached on an error and moved to second on a Raley single. Bledsoe reached home on a DeCamp fielder's choice, cutting the lead to one, 12-11. However, the Storm was unable to plate another run as they fell to the Greyhounds.
Luebke led the Storm offense, going five-of-five with a homerun, double, two RBI and two runs. Raley went three-of-three with three walks, a homerun, RBI and two runs. Williams and Rua had two hits apiece. Rua had a team-high three RBI. DeCamp, Grieco and Bledsoe had one RBI. Bledsoe came across the plate three times while Grieco scored twice. Peterlin had one run while Tyler Kmitt (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) had a RBI.
Michael Poole (Kent, Ohio/Field) faced the most batters for the Storm on the mound. In relief, he went 3.2 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Connor Fuller (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) started the game for the Storm on the mound.
The Storm is back in action March 19th at Davis & Elkins.
