Storm Falls to Second Ranked Cardinals

UNIVERSITY CIRCLE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was defeated today by second ranked Saginaw Valley State, 86-59. 

After a scoreless first two minutes of the game the Cardinals hit a pair of three pointers, before Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) countered with a layup for the Storm to make the score 6-2.  Saginaw Valley led the Storm 10-2 at the first media timeout in the first half.  After the timeout Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) made a pair of foul shots for Lake Erie before the Cardinals went on a 10-0 run that forced a Lake Erie timeout with just under 12 minutes remaining in the half.  The middle part of the first half was a back and forth battle which saw the Cardinals take a 31-15 lead with seven minutes remaining in the half. With four minutes remaining in the half the Storm went on a 15-6 run that saw the Storm cut the Cardinals lead to 42-30. Saginaw Valley took a 15 point, 46-31 advantage into halftime.

At the half the Storm was led by Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) as he had 10 points, and three rebounds in the half.  Also pitching in was Howard as he had six points and a steal. 

Lake Erie opened the second half with back to back baskets by Nick Wells (Akron, Ohio / St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Erron James (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) to cut the Saginaw Valley lead to 11, 48-37. The Cardinals lead was 57-42 at the first media timeout in the second half. Later in the half the Cardinals went on an 8-0 run that saw the Cardinals lead jump to 70-49 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.  The run continued after the media timeout but was halted when Wells hit a layup for the Storm.  Lake Erie continued to battle for the remainder of the game but the Cardinals held on to win, 86-59.       

The Storm was led by Humphrey as he had 13 points and five rebounds.  Howard also chipped in with 10 points and a pair of assists. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Thursday (Dec. 8) when they return home to take on Michigan Tech. with the game set to tip at 7:30 p.m.
