ERIE, Pa.—The ninth-ranked Lake Erie College wrestling team opened the 2016 portion of their schedule with duals against Millersville University and fourth-ranked Mercyhurst University Saturday (Jan. 2).
The Storm opened the day against Millersville. 125-pounder Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind./Fairfield) opened the dual with a first round pin against Austin Camacci. 133-pounder Austin Gillihan (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) followed up the pin with a 2-0 decision against Alex Baider. After 141-pounder Alec Benedetti (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) fell by decision, 149-pounder Nick Boggs (Concord Twp., Ohio/Riverside) picked up an 8-3 decision against Nick Haegele. 157-pounder Christian Baughman (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth), who entered the dual ranked eighth nationally, picked up a 24-10 major decision against Douglas Mele to increase the overall lead for the Storm to 16-3.
The Storm continued to roll as All-American 165-pounder Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), ranked sixth in the country, defeated Seth Decker by decision 5-2. 174-pounder Nicholas Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) followed up with a 12-1 major decision over Nick Mancini to extend the Storm lead to 20, 23-3. 184-pounder Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) won the fifth straight bout for the Storm with a 3-2 decision over Kyle Narber. All-American 197-pounder Evan Rosborough (Concord Twp., Ohio/Riverside) scored a 6-2 decision Colton Dull.
David Wuestner defeated Evan Loughman (Thornville, Ohio/Sheridan), ranked eighth in the country, by decision in the heavyweight match but it was not enough for Millersville as the Storm won 29-6.
In their second dual of the day, the Storm fell to fourth-ranked Mercyhurst University 36-2. Rosborough picked up the lone win for the Storm over Jamar Henry by decision, 8-1.
The Storm is back in action Jan. 8-9 at the NWCA National Duals in Fort Wayne, Ind.
