ASHLAND, Ohio—The ninth-ranked Lake Erie College wrestling team traveled to 20th-ranked Ashland University Saturday (Jan. 16) for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Dual.
The Storm defeated the Eagles 22-15.
The Eagles started the dual up 6-0 after a Storm forfeit at 125-pounds.
Austin Gillihan (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) got the Storm on the board with a 10-2 major decision over Jerry Fenner at 133-pounds to bring the dual score within two points.
At 141-poinds, Joshua Davis (Haubstadt, Ind./F. S. Reitz) fell in a close battle to Bobby Mason by decision, 3-2.
The Storm bounced back with Nick Boggs (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) collecting a 14-8 decision at 149-pounds over Colton Ullman.
The Eagles picked up their second match win at 157-pounds, with Zeb Beam defeating Hunter Turner (North Branch, Mich./Nort Branch) by decision, 10-4.
Fifth-ranked 165-pounder Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) got the Storm back on track with a 9-0 major decision over Brenden Stanley.
The Storm regained the overall lead, 14-12, after eighth-ranked 174-pounder Nicholas Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) scored a 10-6 decision over Jordan Murphy.
Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) kept the ball rolling for the Storm at 184-pounds with a 10-0 major decision over Jared Pack.
Eighth-ranked Evan Rosborough (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) fell in a close match with third-ranked Joe Brandt at 197-pounds, 4-1.
Noah Hosking (Milford, Mich./Milford) wrapped-up the Storm victory with a 9-0 major decision over Nigel Cross in the heavyweight bout.
The Storm is back in action Jan. 24 at top-ranked Notre Dame College.
