ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College softball team was defeated today (April 4^th) by Grand Valley St. in their doubleheader action.  With the losses the Storm is now 7-11 overall and 1-5 in the conference, and with the wins Grand Valley is now 21-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play.    

Grand Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the first and took an early 2-0 advantage.  Grand Valley added a run in the second, to take a 3-0 lead.  The Lakers added three more runs in the third and took a 6-0 advantage.  Grand Valley added three runs in the fourth and maintained their lead to win in five innings.

In game two, Grand Valley took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first.  The Storm answered in the bottom of the first when Jessacca Gironda (Kent State) led off the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a single by Kate-Lynn Urgo (Vermillion, Ohio / Vermillion).  Gironda scored when Allyson Hajnosz (Lordstown, Ohio / Lordstown) reached on an error.  Urgo scored later in the inning on a ground out by Elizabeth Karako (Fairport Harbor, Ohio / Lake Catholic), and Hajnosz came across to score off of a single by Kaylie Lewis (Sebring, Ohio / West Branch).  After Hannah Shevenell (Madera, Calif. / Liberty) reached on an error, Lindsay Valvoda (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) hit a double that scored both Lewis and Shevenell to tie the game at 5 runs apiece.  The inning continued when Ariel Birtley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) singled and drove in Valvoda to give the Storm a 6-5 advantage after the first inning.  Grand Valley scored six runs in the second inning to take an 11-5 advantage.  Grand Valley added seven runs in the third to take an 18-6 advantage.  The Storm loaded the bases in the third, and Gironda singled to score Jennifer Doershuk (Streesboro, Ohio / Kent Roosevelt).  Urgo also singled to drive in Valvoda, to make the score 18-8 in favor of Grand Valley.  The Storm scored in the fifth when Doershuk crossed the plate when Urgo was hit by a pitch.  The Storm scored again in the fifth when Hajnosz grounded out and drove in Valvoda, to make the score 18-10.  The Storm fell in 18-10 in five innings.   

Lake Erie will be back in action Monday (April 6^th) when they host Wayne St., with the first game of the doubleheader starting at 3 P.M.
