XENIA, Ohio – Lake Erie fell to Grand Valley State (Mic.), 10-2, in the championship game of the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday.

The Lakers (37-11) scored six runs over the first two innings of a game they would eventually claim by a final score of 10-2. GVSU pitching allowed just four hits in the game. A fifth-inning error followed by a Lou Peterlin home run spelled the lone production of the day for Lake Erie (31-20).

The Storm's second-place finish marks the program's best conference finish in its 13-year history. The NCAA-II Midwest Region's fifth-ranked squad went 3-2 at the GLIAC tournament, with its only two losses being at the hands of the Lakers, who, with Sunday's win, have now won 13 games in a row.

GVSU outhit the Storm, 12-4, on Sunday. The top four in the Laker batting order went a combined 8-of-17, with a double, two home runs, eight runs scored and seven driven in. Grand Valley went 6-of-11 with runners in scoring position; Lake Erie went 0-for-5.

Lake Erie pitcher Brian Kilway, shortstop Sean Mathews and outfielder Lucas Raley were named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team. Kilway downed third-place Saginaw Valley (Mich.) with a complete-game victory on Friday. Mathews batted .333 (6-of-18) in the tournament, and Raley hit .313 (5-of-16) with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs.

"I wish we would've played more to our ability today," said Head Coach Brian McGee. "But over the weekend, we showed a lot of heart and depth on our roster."
