Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 TIFFIN, Ohio – The Tiffin Dragons held Lake Erie to just three runs over a pair of games, as LEC fell in both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday.
The Dragons (17-12, 6-6 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) took the opener, 8-3, and the nightcap. 9-0. TU freshman Taylor Spang gave up but one hit in game two. With the twin losses, Lake Erie (4-25, 1-17) has now dropped seven in a row. The Storm offense was held without an extra-base hit over the two contests at Tiffin's Paradiso Field. Lindsay Valvoda was LEC's top batter; she went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a walk.
Game 1
Lake Erie had a 2-0 lead slip away due to a second-inning error. Tiffin scored two in that inning and went on to score two more the next, two more in the fourth and then two in the sixth.
A Kate-Lynn Urgo bunt single – her second of the game – led to Lake Erie's only other run in the game. That occurred in the top of the seventh. Despite yielding eight runs, LEC actually out-hit TU, 10-8. Valvoda, Urgo and Maddi Klemp all garnered two hits in the game.
Game 2
Tiffin got a home run and a double in scoring two in the top of the first. After that the Dragons didn't look back, and with Taylor Spang in the circle, didn't have to.
Spang hung zeroes in each and every inning of the five-inning game. Lake Erie didn't get a runner past first after the second inning, and only Jeniffer Gratz' single in the fourth disrupted a Spang no-hitter.
