Box Score WHEELING, WV. – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today (November 19th) by Wheeling Jesuit, 73-61. With the loss the Storm fall to 2-1 overall, and with the win the Cardinals improve to 2-0 overall.
The biggest run of the first half belonged to the Cardinals, it was a 7-2 run gave the Cardinals a nine point advantage. The run was ended by junior guard Shelby Carpenter (Dayton, Ohio / Miami Valley) when she hit a jumper off an assist by junior center Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) to make the score 24-15 in favor of Wheeling Jesuit.
In the second half the Storm went on a 8-3 run that cut the lead to five points with under 14 minutes to play in the game. The run was highlighted by a three pointer by freshman forward Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) off of an assist from Carpenter.
Wheeling came back with an 11-2 run of their own and the lead grew to 55-43 with under 10 minutes to play. The run was ended on a layup by freshman center Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor). The game was back and forth after that run and Wheeling Jesuit won 73-61.
Gabor led the Storm with 20 points on 9-15 shooting from the field, and also had seven rebounds. Carpenter added 12 points on 4-6 shooting and also had a team high three assists.
Lake Erie will be back in action Wednesday (November 26th) when they host Ursuline at 1 P.M.
