Box Score 1 PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Conference leading Ashland University (36-12, 20-8 GLIAC) was too much for Lake Erie College (5-38, 2-24 GLIAC) as it took a doubleheader 11-0 and 17-0, each in five innings at Brookside Park in Ashland, Ohio.
In game one, the Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the first off sophomore starter Dawn Ondercin (Sheffield, Ohio/Brookside) and were off and running. After a scoreless second they added five runs in the third and another two in the fourth en route to the early victory. Ashland starter Emlyn Knerem came two outs away from a no-hitter before senior outfielder Haley Rathge (Edon, Ohio/Napoleon singled to left for Lake Erie's lone hit.
Ondercin allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits with four strikeouts.
In game two, Lake Erie had six but was unable to plate a run. As the away team, Ashland got two runs in the first and three in the second off senior starter Sam Ronde (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg). Redshirt freshman Amanda Anderson (Streetsboro, Ohio/Streetsboro) fared no better in relief allowing four runs in the third, six in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Lake Erie had a single in every inning but was unable to advanced a runner past first until the sixth inning senior Lindsey Pennell (Columbus, Ohio/Westland) and freshman Maddi Klemp (Akron, Ohio/Coventry)
The Storm is in action next Friday and Saturday for Senior Weekend when they host Wayne State University.
