Storm's Two-Game Streak Stalled by Pfeiffer

Box Score

PERRY, Ohio – The Lake Erie men's lacrosse team had its two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday (April 11) afternoon to nonconference foe Pfeiffer University, 14-7, at Perry High School's Alumni Stadium.

The Storm battled in the first half, but the Falcons took over in the second half on the strength of 21 of 24 faceoff wins. Pfeiffer won every faceoff in the second half.

The Storm (3-5) took a 2-1 lead in the first quarter on goals by Kyle Larsen (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) and Keegan Bal (Coquitlam, B.C./Centennial Secondary). The Falcons (8-6) ran off three straight goals at that point, but Josh Becker (Salamanca, N.Y./Salamanca) cut the lead to 4-3 with a goal with 5:38 left in the quarter.

The Storm earned a key possession in the final minute of the opening quarter, but after a timeout, Lake Erie turned it over allowing the Falcons to race up the field and score with just three seconds left to take a two-goal lead.

Lake Erie cut it to 5-4 on Bal's second goal of the game and the teams alternated goals for the rest of the period, but the Storm surrendered another last-minute score that gave the Falcons an 8-6 advantage heading into halftime.

Pfeiffer established control in the second half, scoring all three goals in the third quarter before Andrew Donatelli (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy) connected on his sixth goal of the season.

But the Falcons dominated possession in the final 10 minutes of the game to close out with the 14-7 win.

Despite the loss, Lake Erie continued its dominance in short-handed defense, stopping the Falcons on all four of their extra-man opportunities.

Pfeiffer held the advantage in shots (31-28) and ground balls (31-19).

The game was the last in a four-match homestand for the Storm, which now hits the road for a tough road trip to No. 6 Dowling on Saturday (April 17) and No. 3 Mercyhurst on April 21.
