PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Sophomore Megan Foley
(Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) hit a go-ahead two-run homer
in the fifth inning to lift the Lake Erie College softball team to
a 5-3 win over Gannon University and a split of a pair of games
Thursday (March 4) at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.
Lake Erie (2-6) trailed the Golden Knights (3-4) 3-2 going
into the fifth. Junior Brittany Sostre (Parma,
Ohio/Valley Forge) doubled and Foley scored them both with
her seventh career home run, putting the Storm in front.
After the Storm tacked on an insurance run, sophomore
Sam Ronde (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) closed
out the Knights for her first save. Junior Lauren
Malicki (Independence, Ohio/Independence) earned the win
in the circle, improving to 1-2 on the season.
Earlier, the Storm fell to West Virginia Wesleyan College for
the second time this week, 7-1. Lake Erie jumped out to a 1-0 lead
with an unearned run in the first. That was the score into
the fourth inning when West Virginia Wesleyan scored three times to
take the lead. The Bobcats added three more runs in the sixth
and one in the seventh to post the final margin.
Lake Erie wraps up its spring break trip on Friday, March 5,
with games against the College of Saint Rose (11 a.m.) and Northern
State University (1 p.m.).
