BOXSCORE GAME 1
BOXSCORE GAME 2
PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Despite a vicious
rally to climb back into the nightcap of Friday's (March 19)
doubleheader at Findlay, the Lake Erie softball team was unable to
claim a win against the Oilers, who swept the Storm, 9-2 and
11-10.
The Storm (3-13) trailed, 6-1, heading into the
top of the fourth inning, but scored seven times to take an 8-6
lead. Lindsey Pennell (Columbus, Ohio/Westland)
drew a bases-loaded walk to start the scoring. Haley Rathge
(Edon, Ohio/Napoleon) followed with an RBI single, moving
everyone up a base. Megan Foley (Brunswick,
Ohio/Brunswick) then ripped a two-run single to cut the
Oiler lead to 6-5.
The next batter, Brittany Sostre, gave the Storm
an 8-6 lead on a three-run blast to left-center. The home run was
her second of the season.
The Oilers responded from the Storm's
biggest inning of the season by dropping a five-spot on Lake Erie
in their half of the fourth inning to lead 11-8.
Lake Erie, in the top of the sixth, answered
back, but left the tying run at third base. Sostre drove in her
fourth run of the game in the inning on an RBI single and
Erica Tanski (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) also
had an RBI hit in the inning.
The 10 runs and 12 hits were the most by the
Storm offense this season. Tanski had three hits, while Foley,
Sostre and Rathge had two apiece.
Starter Lauren Malicki (Independence,
Ohio/Independence) took the loss for Lake
Erie.
In game one, the Oilers jumped out to a four-run
lead, but the Storm once again kick-started the offense in the
fourth inning. With runners on second and third, Jamie
Wodecki (Northfield, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) drove in a run
on a groundout and Sam Ronde (Reynoldsburg,
Ohio/Reynoldsburg) followed with an RBI double to cut the
Oiler lead to 4-2.
Findlay, though, tacked on five more runs over
the next three innings to put the game away.
Ronde was the only Storm hitter with two hits,
but she took the loss for the Storm in the circle.
The Storm has a quick turnaround as Lake Erie
will travel to Clarion on Saturday (March 20) afternoon to play the
Golden Eagles in a double-header beginning at 1 p.m
