PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College baseball team split a
doubleheader against West Liberty University on Tuesday (March
16). The Storm won game one 12-3 but dropped the second game
6-2. The games were played in Chillicothe, Ohio due to
inclement weather in West Liberty, W. Va.
In game one, Adam Beach (Vermilion,
Ohio/Vermilion) worked a complete game, allowing three
runs and scattering 10 hits. He struck out five and earned the
win.
Offensively, the Storm pounded out 13 hits, including three by
Nick Lovick (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor). He doubled and
scored twice and drove in four runs. Matt Toth (Lorain,
Ohio/Admiral King), Ryan Rua (Amherst,
Ohio/Amherst) and Brandon James (Mentor,
Ohio/Mentor) had two hits apiece.
The Storm bats cooled off in game two as Matt Lott (Newark,
Ohio/Newark Catholic) was the only player with a multi-hit
game. He had three hits -- including a home run.
Right-hander Glenn Stewart (Strattanville, Pa./Clarion
Limestone) was outstanding in four innings of relief,
allowing just two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. He
relieved starter Pat Mulligan (Brookfield,
Ohio/Brookfield), who took the loss, surrendering six runs
in two innings.
With the split, the Storm remains at .500 for the season with a
4-4 record. West Liberty is now 1-9.
