PAINESVILLE, OHIO - On the heels of a
heartbreaking loss in week one, the Lake Erie College football team
looks to rebound and pick up its first win of the season when it
hosts Fairmont State University on Saturday, Sept. 5,
2009. Kickoff for the 2009 home opener at Jack Britt Memorial
Stadium is set for 1 p.m. The Storm (0-1) fell victim
to a late Gannon University rally last Thursday night in Erie,
losing to the Golden Knights 35-34. The Falcons (0-1) also
dropped their opener last week, 33-21, at home to Clarion
University.
THE SERIES: This is the second meeting between
the schools with Fairmont State holding a 1-0 advantage after last
season's 34-21 win in Fairmont, W. Va.
THE BROADCAST: The game will be carried live on
ESPN 970 WFUN AM and streamed online at www.espn970wfun.com as part
of the Lake Erie Football Network with Scott Wludyga (play-by-play)
and Rob Wludyga (analyst) calling the action.
LAST TIME OUT FOR LAKE ERIE: Lake Erie jumped
out to a two-touchdown lead but saw Gannon rally back with two
scores in the final six minutes, including the game winner with 57
seconds remaining, to give the Golden Knights a 35-34 victory in
the season opener for both teams last Thursday (Aug. 28). Senior RB
Tony Howard (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights/Kent State)
and sophomore QB Sean Bedevelsky (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) each
rushed for two touchdowns while junior linebacker Dan Nebraski
(Painesville, Ohio/Madison/Edinboro) accounted for the other score
with a blocked punt and recovery in the end zone. The Storm totaled
392 yards in the game but was outgained by Gannon 416-392.
LAST TIME OUT FOR FAIRMONT STATE: The Fighting
Falcons outgained Clarion 371-346 and surrendered only one
offensive touchdown, but the Golden Eagles returned two
interceptions for touchdowns and kicked four field goals in a 33-21
win at Fairmont State's Duvall-Rosier Field. The Falcons rushed for
238 yards and had four players each gain 50 or more on the
ground.
COMING UP FOR THE STORM: Lake Erie plays the
first of three straight games on the road, traveling to West
Liberty next Saturday, Sept. 12. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. at
Russek Field in West Liberty, W. Va.
