PAINESVILLE, OHIO - Lake Erie College begins
its second season of varsity football - and first as an active
member of NCAA Division II - on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at Gannon
University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Gannon
University Field in Erie, Pa.
The Storm, which finished 3-8 in its inaugural
campaign, will look to avenge a loss to Gannon in last year's
season-opener. The Golden Knights (4-7 in 2008) held on for a
24-22 victory on Aug. 28, 2009 in the first game in Lake Erie
history.
THE SERIES: Gannon leads 1-0 after winning last
year's contest in Painesville, Ohio. This will be the first
meeting in Erie, Pa.
THE BROADCAST: The game will be streamed live on
www.espn970wfun.com as
part of the Lake Erie Football Network with veteran sports
announcer Scott Wludyga handling the play-by-play.
THE COACHES: Mark McNellie (Baldwin-Wallace '88)
is in his third season at Lake Erie, guiding the program since its
inception as a club sport in 2007. Prior to being named head
coach at Lake Erie on Aug. 9, 2006, McNellie was an assistant coach
at Mercyhurst College for 17 years.
Jim Kiernan (Lawrence '90) is in his third
season as the fourth coach in Gannon history. He is 5-17
overall with the Golden Knights.
