Errorless Play Then Outhitting Opposition Still Doesn't Lead to Wins for Storm on the Road

ERIE, Pa. (April 21, 2009) - Lake Erie College committed less errors on the day, then outhit its opponents in game two, but still left Erie, Pa. with two losses to Mercyhurst College Tuesday afternoon, 10-0 and 5-3.

In the first game, the Storm played errorless ball in the field but was shutout in the runs category, recording only three hits in seven at bats. Outfielders Brandon James (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Matt Toth (Lorain, Ohio/Admiral King) each singled and sub Jae Leeworthy (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) hit a double in his only at bat of the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Then in game two, the Storm got all three of its runs in the first two innings and was ahead 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third when Mercyhurst put together a four-run effort to take over the lead which would eventually earn them their 30th win on the season. Lake Erie outhit the Lakers 6-5 with James leading the team at 2-for-3 with one run.

Lake Erie (13-28) hosts Tiffin University at Rec Park on Thursday at 1 p.m.
