BEREA, Ohio (March 25, 2009) - Lake Erie College lost on the
road to Baldwin-Wallace College, 12-8 Wednesday afternoon despite
getting off to a good start with two runs in the top of the first.
The green and white had two hits in the opening inning after a lead
off double by freshman Patrick Stantial (West Farmington,
Ohio/Southington) and a single by freshman Kyle Kemp (Spotsylvania,
Va./James Monroe. A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly scored both to
put Lake Erie up 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets put three on the board in the bottom half of
the inning before Lake Erie put two more runs up in the second with
two more hits - a single by freshman Matt Vanni (Willowick,
Ohio/Benedictine) and another Stantial double. This time B-W
answered with a five-run inning to go up 8-4. The hosts then tacked
on another run in the fifth.
Lake Erie had a three-run seventh inning on four hits and one
error. Vanni, Kemp, senior Ben Reed (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal)
and sophomore Brandon James (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) all singled,
bringing the Storm to within one at 9-8. B-W scored three runs in
what would be the final inning of the night, before the game was
called because of darkness.
Stantial went 3-for-5 with one run. Kemp went 2-for-3 with two
runs and one RBI and Vanni went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.
Lake Erie (3-15) has a four-game series with Salem International
this weekend with the first pitch of the opening game scheduled
for 3 p.m. Saturday.
