PAINESVILLE, OHIO - The Lake Erie College men's basketball team trailed by 15 late in the first half but came up just short in a 68-62 loss Tuesday night (Dec. 1) on the road at California University of Pennsylvania.

Junior guard Ethan Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio/Harmony Prep) scored a career-high 21 points, including four three-pointers, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Storm (2-6) from dropping its second straight.

Cal (4-1), which led throughout, shot 50 percent from the field (26-of-52) and had three players in double figures in winning the 400th game of head coach Bill Brown's coaching career.

The Vulcans jumped out to a 25-10 lead with 9:35 left in the first half and led b seven, 38-31, at the break.

In the second half, the Storm quickly cut the deficit to four on a three by Bradshaw, but then Cal went on a 9-0 spurt that pushed the advantage to 13.

Later, Bradshaw scored seven of his 15 second-half points in a 13-3 run that got the Storm within a basket at 58-56 with 4:32 to go.

But once again, Cal answered immediately, getting a basket from Andrew Young, two free throws from Ryne Niemiec and an emphatic dunk from Kelsey Williams that extended the lead back up to eight. Lake Erie would not close within less than five points over the final four minutes.

In addition to Bradshaw, junior Joe Roberts (Cleveland, Ohio/Rhodes/Alderson-Broaddus) scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Storm shot just 35.7% (20-of-56) in the game.

Cal was led by Williams' 14 points. Niemic scored 13 and Travon Vann chipped in with 10 points off the bench. The Vulcans held a 24-7 edge in bench scoring.

After playing its last six away from home the Storm returns to the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic & Wellness Center this weekend for a pair of games beginning Saturday, Dec. 5, against Edinboro University at 3 p.m.
