Volleyball Completes Season Sweep of Malone

Painesville, Ohio - The Lake Erie College volleyball team earned a four-set victory over the visiting Malone University Pioneers on Friday night to complete the season sweep.

Lake Erie won the first two sets by the scores of 25-19 before dropping the third 25-22. However, the Storm would rebound with a 25-17 win in the fourth to finish off the victory.

The Storm dropped in 19 aces in the match, led by Allison Kirch, who posted a career-high nine while leading all players with 14 kills. Sadie Nawrocki added seven kills, and Nora Larson chipped in six.

Kylie Anderson delivered 29 assists and four aces in the victory. Bella Kessler matched her four aces while posting a team-high 17 digs.

It was nip-and-tuck throughout the first set until the Storm pulled away late down the stretch. It was even at 15-15, but a 7-3 Storm burst created enough separation between the two foes as LEC finished off the six-point win.

It was a different avenue to victory in the second set as the Storm jumped out to an 8-0 lead and later led 19-9. With the large lead in hand, LEC was able to enter some reserves as they did part to secure the 2-0 match advantage.

The Pioneers found some traction in the third set, building a 6-0 cushion out of the gate and eventually led 17-7. However, the Storm wouldn't go down without a fight as they battled back to within two, 23-21, but couldn't quite get over the top to complete the comeback.

With still a 2-1 match lead, the Storm didn't panic and reasserted themselves in the fourth set. Despite trailing 7-4 in the early going, the Storm would score 11 of the next 15 points to claim a 15-11 cushion. LEC would later increase the margin out to six, 20-14, and never looked back in finishing off the match.

The Storm leveled their overall mark at 5-5 on the year and now sit at 3-1 in G-MAC play ahead of tomorrow's home match-up against Findlay. The first serve is set for 1 p.m.
