CANTON, Ohio — The Lake Erie College women's soccer team fell to the Malone Pioneers, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park.
Malone opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Jojo Knight converted a penalty kick. The Pioneers carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime despite a save by Lake Erie goalkeeper Morgan VanMeter late in the period.
The Storm responded shortly after the break. Isabella Carvalho drew Lake Erie level with a penalty-kick goal in the 49th minute, recording her third goal of the season.
Lake Erie continued to apply pressure following the equalizer, generating several opportunities and earning two corner kicks during the second half. Malone regained the lead in the 68th minute when McKenna Schwartzengraber scored off an assist from Maya Najjar.
The Storm pushed for another equalizer until the final whistle, with Alice McKenna recording the final shot of the match, but the Pioneers held on for the 2-1 victory.
Lake Erie finished with seven shots, including six in the second half. Carvalho and Ava Moore each placed a shot on goal, while Emily Brewer and McKenna recorded two shots apiece. VanMeter made three saves in the full 90 minutes.
The Storm move to 2-3-3 overall and 1-2-1 in G-MAC play. Lake Erie is back home on Thursday September 24th, as they take on the Eagles from #11 Ashland at 7:00PM on Campus Field.
