CANTON, Ohio — The Lake Erie College men's soccer team remained unbeaten in G-MAC play with a 1-0 victory over the Malone Pioneers on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Park.
The Storm controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting Malone 8-0 during the first half.
Veljko Radovanovic nearly opened the scoring in the 35th minute, but his attempt was saved by Malone goalkeeper Sam Cipriano.
Radovanovic broke through just minutes later, scoring in the 38th minute off assists from
Gabriele Argint and
Fabio Juricko. This marks
Radovanovic's third goal of the season and fourth of his career. The goal gave Lake Erie a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Lake Erie's defense protected the lead throughout the second half and limited the Pioneers to just one shot during the entire match. Malone's lone opportunity came in the final minute, but goalkeeper
Patrick Bassett made the save to secure the shutout.
The Storm finished with a 12-1 advantage in shots.
Radovanovic led the attack with four shots, including two on goal, while
William Hjelte added two attempts.
Bassett played all 90 minutes and earned his second shutout of the season.
Lake Erie improves to 4-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. The boys are back in action Thursday September 24th as they take on the Oilers on the road at Findlay.
