PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 conference victory over the Walsh Cavaliers on Thursday evening at Campus Field.
The Storm opened the scoring in the 17th minute when
Isabella Carvalho connected on a pass from
Teena Erras. The goal was
Carvalho's second of the season and ultimately proved to be the game-winner.
Lake Erie continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half.
Carvalho nearly doubled the lead in the 32nd minute, but Walsh goalkeeper O'Malley Quinlan made the save. Moments later,
Pauline Passarge sent a header just wide of the net as the Storm carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Walsh increased the pressure after the break, recording 13 shots and five corner kicks during the second half. The Cavaliers nearly equalized in the 59th minute when Taylor Baier's attempt struck the post. They threatened again in the 85th minute, but Jamie Duskey's shot hit the crossbar.

Morgan VanMeter remained composed throughout the Cavaliers' second-half attack. She made four saves, including stops in the 83rd and 88th minutes, to secure the clean sheet. With this shutout,
VanMeter is within one of tying the record for career shutouts (14).
Walsh finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks, but the Storm defense held firm to preserve the one-goal victory.
With the win, Lake Erie improves to 2-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in G-MAC play. The Storm return to action Saturday, September 19, when they travel to Canton to face Malone at noon.
