Two Early Tallies Push Storm Past the Knights

Erie, PA - The Lake Erie College men's soccer team kicked off the 2026 season with an impressive 2-0 road win at Gannon University on Thursday night. 

The Knights, who were an Elite 8 team last season and posted a 15-3-4 record, tied with the Storm last fall, 3-3.

Lake Erie wasted no time getting on the board as senior Veljko Radovanovic sent in a piercing laser strike into the upper right-90 of the goal in the ninth minute to stake the Storm to the early advantage. It marked his second-career goal in an LEC kit. He was set up by Nicolas Vagujhelyi, who picked up his ninth-career point. 

The Storm weren't done applying the pressure to the Knights as redshirt junior Lucas Howe opened up his 2026 scoring account in the 23rd minute with a long-range strike from the far left side of the field that deflected off the Gannon keeper and into the back of the net. It marked Howe's fourth career tally. 

With a comfortable lead in hand, Lake Erie was able to focus on limiting the Knights' scoring chances the rest of the way, but Gannon continued to scratch and claw for its opportunities. The Knights fired off 17 shots, but put just six on frame. Senior keeper David Ruiz Ospina went all 90 minutes and made five saves. 

LEC triggered seven shots in the match and cashed in both of its shots on goal. Howe and Radovanovic led the way with two attempts each. Gannon also ended with a 6-2 edge in corners.

The Storm will look to move to 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at UIndy. The first touch is set for 2:00 p.m.
