PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Hillsdale College Chargers tonight in another Great Midwest matchup. The Storm controlled the Chargers most of the game but a tough fourth quarter let the game slip past them as they fell just short, 62-55.
Game Recap
The two sides went back-and-forth early on. The Chargers took a 12-8 lead before the Storm really got going and proceeded to go on a 9-3 run to end the quarter and take a 16-15 lead.
They traded leads to begin the second quarter but after Lake Erie took a 20-19 lead on a tip-in by Noel Weathers, they would not let Hillsdale get in front for the next 27 minutes of action.
The Storm began the fourth with a three point basket by Marcela Rodriguez, taking a 49-40 lead and continued to bend but not break as the quarter went along. With 1:39 remaining, the Chargers finally tied up the game at 55 and took the lead a minute later. The Storm were unable to catch up and they dropped a heartbreaking contest at home.
Grace Lyon led with a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds while shooting 6-for-8 from the field. Weathers was right behind her, scoring 10 points while grabbing five boards and Sophie Chipps would match her boards while also leading the team with five assists.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back in action on Saturday, February 14th against the Tiffin Dragons to begin a four-game road trip before closing out the season at home against the Ohio Dominican Panthers.
