PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Tiffin University Dragons this afternoon to begin the new year and continue G-MAC competition. It was a roller coaster game but the Storm came up clutch down the line and defeated the Dragons 65-62.
Game Recap
The Storm came out firing and took an early 11–0 lead to begin the game. The Dragons battled back to make it an 11–10 contest, but a big three-pointer from Grace Lyon stopped their run just before the end of the first quarter.
The Storm maintained the lead through the end of the first half, before the Dragons took their first lead of the game late in the third quarter, 32–31.
Midway through the fourth quarter, with the shot clock expiring, Emma Fouch threw up a last-second shot to give the Storm a 52–51 lead.
With both teams trading baskets down the stretch, Sophie Chipps nailed a huge three-pointer with 46 seconds remaining to give Lake Erie a 59–57 advantage, forcing Tiffin to use a timeout.
The Dragons continued to hang around until the final possession, but the Storm kept them at bay and took home the hard-earned victory.
Grace Lyon recorded a double-double in the win, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 boards. Jaicee Wallace finished right behind her with 14 points of her own, going 5-of-8 from the field.
As a team, the Storm shot 50% from both the field and beyond the arc for the first time since January 26, 2022, during a home battle with Ashland.
The Matchup
With the win, the Storm have now won four straight against the Dragons, with their last loss coming on January 29, 2022. Since 2009, they hold a 13-15 record.
Looking Ahead
The Storm will return to action with a rare Monday afternoon game when the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers come into town. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
