PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie women's basketball team hosted the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets tonight as they continued their three-game home stand. The Storm rallied from behind and refused to go down without a fight, ending the game with an exciting 73-68 victory.

The Storm came into tonight's contest looking to break a six-game losing streak. They battled hard with the Yellow Jackets in the first quarter, shooting 41.7% from the field and not letting them create a lead larger than seven at any point.
Both teams struggled mightily in the second, scoring a combined 15 points but the Storm kept the game fairly close, with just a 12 point deficit going into the locker room at the half.
The third quarter ebbed and flowed for both teams. The Storm trimmed the deficit to four points just 3:15 into the quarter but the Yellow Jackets came back to take a 14 point advantage with 2:24 remaining. Lake Erie finished strong though and ended the period trailing by nine points.
In the fourth, the Yellow Jackets started to extend their lead but the Storm began to threaten. Halfway into the quarter, they brought the game to within three points and continued to keep pace. Just two minutes later the game sat at 57-56 with the Yellow Jackets holding on for dear life.
With 1:53 remaining, Marcela Rodriguez hit a huge three pointer to tie the game up at 60 and 16 second later they took their first lead of the game with a Sydney Shocklee layup.
A jumper by Rodriguez and two free throws from Noel Weathers extended the lead to 66-60 with 40 second remaining.
The Yellow Jackets continued to foul and hit their shots, not letting the Storm get too comfortable. With under 10 second remaining they managed to trim the Storm lead to just three but Weathers iced the game with two successful free throws and they emerged victorious.
In the fourth, the Storm shot an incredible 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field and 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the charity stripe.
Weathers had a huge breakout game for the Storm, scoring a season-high 25 points while grabbing nine rebounds and adding two blocks.
Looking Ahead
Lake Erie will be back in action Saturday, January 31st at home to host the Ursuline College Arrows at 1 p.m. They will look to ride the momentum for tonight's huge game and earn their first set of back-to-back victories since the end of the 2022-23 season.
