Storm Fall Short in Straight Sets Against Panthers

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie Volleyball returned home for their G-MAC home opener against the Ohio Dominican Panthers. The Storm would show fight in the first and third sets, but would fall in straight sets.

Set 1: The Storm would step ahead quickly with a 3-1 lead with an ace from Allison Kirch and a kill from Kennady Wiley. After two kills from Nora Larson for a 13-11 lead, the Panthers would move ahead 16-14, taking five of the next six points. Ohio Dominican would continue to move ahead with six straight points to go ahead 22-15. Lake Erie would push the deficit to 24-20 after kills from Wiley, Jasmine Heyward, and Gabrielle Jones. The Panthers would close the set at 25-20.  
 
Set 2: The Panthers would continue momentum from the first to jump ahead early with a 10-4 lead. Ohio Dominican continued to pull away in the set, going ahead 21-9. The Storm would bring the score to 23-14 after kills from Wiley and Heyward, a solo block from Rori Hanken, and a block from Wiley and Heyward. The Panthers would take the set comfortably 25-14.  
 
Set 3: After the teams would exchange points to begin the set, the Panthers would pull ahead 12-9. The Storm would tie it back up at 12 with an ace from Nicole Colombo and a block from Wiley and Nora Larson. Ohio Dominican would pull back ahead 17-14. Lake Erie would take the lead 19-18 after kills from Larson, Wiley, and Heyward, and a solo block from Heyward. After the Storm tied the set up at 22 after kills from Wiley and Lexi Stooksbury, the Panthers would take the last three points of the set for a score of 25-22.

With the loss, Lake Erie is now on a six-game losing streak to Ohio Dominican and are 5-16 all-time. The last Lake Erie win came on the road in 2019 with a four-set victory.

Looking Ahead
 
Lake Erie welcome Ashland University to the Jerome T. Osborne Center on Friday, October 3rd at 6 p.m. 
 
Ashland is currently 9-3 overall and 4-1 in G-MAC play to begin the season. Recently, the Eagles took a five-set victory at Tiffin and a straight set loss at #23 Findlay. In the 2025 preseason poll, the Eagles were picked to finish 1st in the G-MAC East division.
